creativity this week yellow fabric scraps turn into a star, and paintings on fabric, and paper from Not Afraid of Color

this week I made the yellow feathered star block for rainbow scrap challenge... used more yellow scraps. When it was finished I noted the center yellows looked too similar so I got these out

copper paint, tested on a yellow scrap, perfect! Dab paint on with sea sponge

then went over with gold paint on the test scrap... maybe... I like stenciling a lot

these blocks are paper pieced (foundation) from this book

so stenciling was easy with the paper backing. Iron when dry makes it permanent. I also shaded that one with brown prisma color pencil

the four colors ...

my creative week fast stitching, slow stitching drawing , painting and some learning too from Not Afraid of Color

it's been a week of learning (Zen Stitch workshop online) and making

Drawing faces and flowers, painting on paper and fabric, designing an Autumn quilt, trying techniques new to me like setting shisha mirrors and stacking straight stitches in embroidery. Trying some stitches in a slightly different way than I've done them before, using my supplies, getting new supplies...

Toward the end of the week I just watched the lessons and stored up plans to try them later because my mind was full. (plus the occular migraines take a lot out of me)

I often try out ideas ...

my creative week.... a workshop, a little paint, a lot of sewing from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to my creativity round up for the last week of October 2022.

Relax!?? when there is so much to do??

no not raking,

ART-ing!!!

The little index card with a message for me on it is about all I've painted except for fabric this week. I started with a word written with stabillo crayon, and wet brush dragged the paint into a shadow. Then leaves drawn with pigma marker, painted with watercolors, it was done!

A workshop lesson this week was to try block printing on fabric

square stamp with spirals, lumiere paint
I used a foam brush ...

paint party Friday... mixed media? from Not Afraid of Color

"Gazing out with Hope"
This is the day I usually share paintings and drawings.... and here is my big finished painting this week!

it's quite different  working with fabric rather than paper. The fibers in fabric can wick a thinner liquid along their lines, or bleed, causing you to have unplanned lines. I started this piece, one evening when I just wanted to paint a face... I got a scrap of muslin fabric, and these basic materials out on the work table

I start a face with two half moons for eyes, one crescent for lip top, one tiny ...

paint party Friday from Not Afraid of Color

It's Friday, and the day  I share what I've drawn or painted this week.

Like most  Americans I've been shaken to my core with the attempted coup to take over our democracy, but like most artists I sought solace in creativity.

It's not much to show you but it's a sign of wanting to express myself.  It is just a doodle on my weekly calendar now passe as it is from 2020.

Taking respite from the news, I also toured a few videos on how to view famous painter's work

I painted on fabric ...

Paint + Fabric from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to Paint Party friday... this week I watched a tutorial by CeeCeeCreations where she used Inktense pencils to paint leaves. Well I decided to use my new-to-me kit of Derwent watercolor pencils.
 to make a little card.
I like the Derwent
Although I'm not sold on using pencils all the time to do paintings, it was fun to do this exercise. It seems kind of harsh to me. The Derwent color moves easily with water, the colors are pretty good.
I made something... always a good thing right? After the leaves were done, I filled in with tombow ...

paint party Friday... from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to paint party Friday, and my weekly painting post. I just did two painted sketches this week, and finished a fiber piece that was inspired by one of my paintings.

The pink flower above was going to be a mandala, and I liked the simplicity of it, so I left it.

I think I like the edge of the petals, and the mix of paint by dragging the brush across two pans at once.

The other one was to be an experiment with mixing the two colors on one brush stroke, then writing over it...

this is what comes ...

Watching paint dry.... mandalas flowers mermaids from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to paint party Friday... lots of color being used this week.
Painting takes me to where life is manageable...
Continuing with my circular/mandala series, I always think I will paint a simple one, then ink over it.
then I don't. This one reminded me of a landscape/sky in the circle, surrounded by water. The only ink added was Posca pen in white for little horizontal dots and the spiral bottom right.
I painted, dabbed, over-painted, dropped color on in dots, watched it all merge and spread as it dried...
The color is intense. The process for ...

paint party Friday from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to paint party Friday... remember my heart painting, that I didn't want to mess up?
the one I made to practice my inking onto, then didn't want to experiment with?
(so typical of me)
well, I got brave one morning and started doodling on it with ink
pigma .05 in black, and white gel pen
I like it still. I might do less inking on the  next painting, as it's pretty dense, or I might just let myself enjoy the process of seeing ink on a painting.
I checked this book out of our library, and ...
